Our second writing assignment was interesting to research and write about for our class. By looking at social organizations we were able to address how groups communicate with non-supporters and supporters. By looking at how the organization communicates we can better understand how groups of all kinds get their message across to people. Reasoning, objective, and argument validate the groups efforts in every way. Without knowledge of how to do these things groups would be unable to move forward and successfully become well known or do some good for those they are trying to help out.
For our second assignment my group chose to discuss PETA. The PETA group was easy to analyze because of the amount of information readily available online. This helped us understand PETA better as well as be able to analyze how PETA works. Communication is key for all social organizations to rely their message to the unaware. PETA does so through controversial ads and using the faces of famous people to get awareness up.

ReplyDeleteI liked how you took the assignment we were given and explained in detail how it related to this class and everyday life. It is true that by understanding how big social organizations, like PETA, convey their message, we can begin to gain a better understanding of group communication in general. My group and I chose to focus on PETA as well. The PETA website provides so much information about the organization it was easy to analyze it based on the information online. Group communication is so important in general, and this assignment did a great job of explaining the importance of understanding how to communicate to audiences.

ReplyDeleteI definitely agree how this assignment is interesting. Through this assignment we are able to notice how organizations address their issues to those who know about it and to those who do not, which helps us learn more about them but also how people react to the advertisements they present to the people. By analyzing how organizations use their power to get people to support them, it’s good to know how to critically analyze if they’re telling the truth or making vague claims. I think PETA conveys their message differently in comparison to other organizations against animal cruelty, because they use celebrities to get the word out by posing nude, wherein the others tend to show more how brutally abused animals are.

ReplyDeleteI completely agree with what you said and also found this specific assignment to be really interesting and rewarding. Even though my group did chose PETA, I think PETA is a great organization. I like how you brought up the fact that they use celibrities to get the message around and to have a stronger effect on the viewers. I agree with you and think it is a great way to call awareness on their issues. I found that many organizations are starting to do this now. I thought this assignment was also very interesting because it reflects how organizations make their arguments and how they use advertisements to get their words around.

ReplyDeleteIt was fun working together in a group. i definitely felt the same exact way that you did. It was interesting to do a project, where the information is provided and you have come up with innovative ways to combine the information and the textbook together. In addition to that, I felt the various components that we had to do were pretty challenging. It was good that we had fun while getting it done. Especially, with the room that you booked, and how relaxed we were while finishing up both our projects. I think i really learned a lot from doing this. Can't wait for the next one.
